Statement on 2025 House Budget Proposal (S257, v6)
The North Carolina Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (NCACTE) supports the inclusion of key provisions in Senate Bill 257, Version 6 (House Budget Bill), that reflect a meaningful investment in public education. While the bill does not address all the needs of our public schools and educator preparation programs, we are encouraged by the proposed teacher compensation increases, the return of master’s-level pay, and the expansion of the Teaching Fellows program.
These provisions align with NCACTE’s 2025 Strategic Directions, which call for strengthening the educator pipeline through high-quality, approved educator preparation programs (EPPs). The House Budget Bill’s focus on educator quality reflects a shared commitment to ensuring every student has access to a well-prepared, licensed teacher and school administrator.
NCACTE looks forward to continued collaboration with legislators and education leaders to build on this progress. Together, we can advance a comprehensive vision for public education that supports both our educators and the students they serve.
